The short version: Faerd works offline. We don't sell your data, we don't share it with advertisers, and we collect only what's necessary to fulfil your order and improve the product. We use Mixpanel for anonymised website analytics.
Who we are
Faerd Ltd is the data controller responsible for your personal data. We are registered in England and Wales.
What data we collect
We collect the minimum necessary to operate:
- Order data — name, email address, shipping address, and payment reference. Payment card details are handled entirely by our payment processor and never touch our servers.
- App usage data — anonymised session counts and durations to help us understand how Faerd is used. We do not collect which specific apps you block.
- App settings — your focus mode preferences are stored locally on your device. No device identifier or NFC interaction data is transmitted to our servers.
- Support correspondence — if you contact us, we retain that communication to help resolve your query.
Lawful basis for processing
- Contract performance — processing your order, shipping your device, handling returns.
- Legitimate interests — anonymised analytics to improve the product, responding to support queries.
- Legal obligation — retaining transaction records for tax and accounting purposes.
How we share your data
We do not sell your data. We share it only with:
- Payment processor — to handle your transaction securely.
- Shipping carrier — your name and address are passed to our fulfilment partner to deliver your order.
- Analytics — anonymised website usage data is sent to Mixpanel (EU servers).
- Cloud infrastructure — our servers are hosted within the UK and EU.
No advertising networks. No data brokers.
International transfers
Your data is stored and processed within the UK and European Economic Area (EEA). If we ever need to transfer data outside these regions, we will ensure adequate safeguards are in place in line with UK GDPR and EU GDPR.
How long we keep your data
- Order records — 7 years (UK tax law requirement).
- App analytics — aggregated and anonymised after 12 months.
- Support correspondence — 2 years from last contact.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR and EU GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of the data we hold about you.
- Rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate data.
- Erasure — ask us to delete your data, subject to legal retention requirements.
- Portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format.
- Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interests.
- Restriction — ask us to restrict processing in certain circumstances.
To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk, or your local EU supervisory authority if you are based in the EU.
App management permissions
To provide its core functionality, Faerd requires the following sensitive permissions:
- iOS — Screen Time API — Faerd uses Apple's Screen Time API to restrict access to apps you choose to lock. This permission is used solely to enable the focus mode feature you configure. No information about which apps you use or block is transmitted to our servers.
- Android — Usage Access — Faerd uses the Usage Access permission (
PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS) to monitor foreground app activity and restrict access to apps you choose to lock. This data is processed entirely on-device and is never transmitted to our servers or shared with third parties.
These permissions are optional in the sense that you explicitly grant them during onboarding. Without them, the app's locking functionality will not work. You can revoke these permissions at any time in your device settings.
Analytics
Our website uses Mixpanel to collect anonymised analytics data — including pages visited and interactions such as button clicks. This helps us understand how people use the site so we can improve it.
Mixpanel stores data on servers within the EU (our account uses EU data residency). Mixpanel does not use this data for advertising. You can opt out of Mixpanel tracking at mixpanel.com/optout.
We do not use advertising cookies or load any ad network scripts.
Cookies
Our website uses a single locally-stored identifier for analytics purposes (to distinguish unique visitors in Mixpanel). We use a session cookie for the checkout flow only. No advertising or tracking cookies are set.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the product evolves. Material changes will be communicated by email to customers with an active order.
